Premiered by the Kings Glen Elementary School Band, Springfield, Virginia on June 8, 2009.
The Kings March was written for my son’s school band. Though the rhythms and ranges are easily within reach of students in their first or second year, the piece utilizes some interesting imitative counterpoint. Woodwind players are all required to play slurred octaves (or twelfths in the case of clarinets) for an interesting effect that will build young students’ confidence. Low brass parts implement B-flat lip slurs. This is a simple piece that new band students will enjoy!
